Actual Settlement Amounts Truck accidents

$20 Million to Victim in Truck Accident In today’s heated political climate, it’s not unusual for matters of local and even individual justice to suffer. However, a recent truck accident case handled by the attorney team at Fried Goldberg proved that when it comes to Alabama’s court system, justice remains steadfastly blind. The case concerned a 2013 trucking accident that took place in Cobb County . The plaintiff, a 57-year-old man of Pakistani origin, was driving on Cobb Parkway when a tractor trailer ran a light and struck his vehicle. As a result of the crash, the victim suffered many serious injuries including permanent brain damage. The Atlanta Truck Accident Lawyer is widely recognized as Alabama’s trucking law experts; even so, this case presented several novel aspects for the firm. To begin with, the victim’s identity as part of the Muslim faith could have proved a sticking point for the jury. In addition, the attorneys had to form their arguments around a respectful regard f...

Semi Truck Crash Texas Highway

A multi-vehicle pileup in Texas on Friday was partially captured in a dramatic video of an 18-wheel tractor-trailer slamming into the accident scene. The accident began as a two-car crash on Highway 84 in Lubbock County, according to CNN affiliate KCBD. Police were investigating the crash when a semi-truck traveling eastbound jackknifed and slid, coming to rest at the center median. Several more vehicles subsequently crashed into the truck as the area was under a dense fog advisory at the time. Caleb Holder, a KCBD photographer, was filming the accident scene, when a second 18-wheeler jackknifed to avoid a red SUV that changed lanes in front of it. The truck swerved off the road and rolled over on its side, striking several vehicles as it slid into a ditch directly in front of Holder, KCBD reported. Several law enforcement officers scrambled to get out of the way as the semi barreled off the road. “We could hear more tires screeching, and then just barely see headlights coming in ...

Are Elderly Truck Drivers Causing More Accidents?

According to a recent study conducted by CBS News, from 2013 to 2015, more than 6,636 trucking accidents involving elderly drivers were reported. The article also noted that within the past three years, there was a 19 percent increase in accidents combining both commercial truck and bus drivers who were in their 70s, 80s and 90s. Could age be the main factor in the rise of these types of crashes? Some attention has been given to link the eyebrow-raising practices by the commercial truck industry for actively recruiting senior drivers due to the need for more commercial truck drivers. Are these older truck drivers creating more danger for roadways? If so, should the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration ( FMCSA ) take additional precautions during the hiring process? The writer notes that pilots have a mandatory retirement age – left unstated but implied was this: perhaps the trucking industry should require the same rule. Trucking Accidents among Elderly Drivers There may be a dr...

A rear-end collision is a particularly serious matter when it comes to large vehicles like semi trucks. Weighing in at 80,000 pounds, a fully-loaded truck is 40 times heavier than a passenger vehicle. Sharing the Road with Semi-Trucks Because of their size, semi-trucks move more slowly, are less maneuverable and take longer to stop or change course when compared to passenger cars and smaller trucks. The risk of a truck exploding or catching fire increases exponentially when trucks transport this type of cargo. How to Cover your Medical Expenses and Lost Income After a Rear-End Truck Collision? Do you tip tow truck drivers?

Because tow truck drivers do not come first to mind as it relates to professions that receive tips (think restaurant servers), there is no set standard regarding this matter.  The generally accepted amount to tip a server is 15-20% of the bill, but should this guideline be applied to tow truck drivers? Probably not, but at least this social norm could be used as a starting point.  If you can afford it, maybe a tip of $5-$10 is appropriate in most tow truck service scenarios. However, you should never feel obligated to tip a tow truck service person if it will be a financial burden for you to do so. Sitting in a broken down car can be a lonely proposition, as it tends to bring about feelings of helplessness. When the tow truck arrives, it is a most welcome sight and can mean the difference between getting on with your day or being stuck on the side of the road.
